In-Office Procedures Q & A

What are in-office procedures?

These procedures are minimally-invasive treatments, offered to low-risk patients in her in-office surgical suite. In-office procedures typically are more cost-effective for the patient and are less time consuming for the patient.

What types of procedures are performed in the office?

Dr. Paas is a skilled gynecologist who performs many in-office procedures. Some of the most common include:

Dilation and curettage (D&C)

A D&C is a procedure that removes tissue from inside your uterus. Dr. Paas may recommend this in-office procedure to diagnose heavy bleeding or to clear the uterine lining after a miscarriage.

Endometrial ablation

Endometrial ablation is a procedure that surgically destroys the lining of your uterus. Dr. Paas may recommend an endometrial ablation if you’re suffering from heavy bleeding.

Endometrial biopsy

In an endometrial biopsy, Dr. Paas removes a small sample of your endometrial tissue. She may recommend this procedure to assist in the diagnosis of abnormal bleeding or to screen for endometrial cancer.

Hysteroscopic resection of polyps and fibroids

In this procedure, Dr. Paas uses a hysteroscope, which is a narrow telescope, to fully examine your cervix. Then, she passes a small loop through the inside of the hysteroscope, which uses an electric current to remove endometrial tissue, polyps, or fibroids.

Labiaplasty

Labiaplasty is an aesthetic surgical procedure in which Dr. Paas trims and reshapes your labia to improve appearance and function.

Loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP)

LEEP is a surgical procedure used to treat high-grade or low-grade cervical lesions that may be early signs of cervical cancer. During the procedure, Dr. Paas inserts a very thin wire into your cervix, which emits an electric current that acts like a scalpel to remove the affected tissue.

If Dr. Paas isn’t able to perform your procedure at the office, then she can perform it at the hospital.

How do I know what type of procedure I need?

Dr. Paas determines the type of procedure you need based on your personal health issues. She also determines whether your procedure is performed in the office or at the hospital.
