What is women’s health?
Women’s health is a medical specialty focused on the unique needs of women, with a focus on reproductive health.
Dr. Paas is a well-trained and experienced gynecologist who can manage the special health needs for teen girls and women of any age. She recommends girls start their gynecology care between the ages of 13 and 15, and offers specialized adolescent gynecology exams and screenings.
Do I need an annual gynecological exam?
Yes, you need an annual gynecological exam. Your annual exam is a wellness visit that focuses on your feminine health needs and includes screenings for common health issues that affect women.
Dr. Paas also recommends you come in for your annual exam because it helps you develop a closer, more trusting relationship with her that makes it more comfortable for you to ask the more difficult questions.
During your annual exam, Dr. Paas reviews your medical and gynecological history and any concerns you may have. She then performs a physical, including a breast exam and pelvic exam.
She may also recommend specific testing, such as Pap smear to screen for cervical cancer or testing for the human papillomavirus (HPV), which is a common sexually transmitted disease (STD) linked to cervical cancer.
After your exam, Dr. Paas provides recommendations aimed at maintaining or improving your health. She may also recommend additional screenings, such as a mammogram for breast cancer or a bone density test for osteoporosis. She may also provide contraceptive counseling and management.
