Platelet Rich Plasma (PRP) is not a new concept. In fact, it has been used since the 1980’s. At that time its use was initially for wound healing. Since that time, it has now been used in orthopedics, plastics surgery, gynecology and aesthetics. Over 9000 published papers on PRP have reported no serious adverse events.
Simply, platelet-rich plasma is the portion of one’s own blood that has a very concentrated portion of at least 8 growth factors that would normally heal injured tissue. It is these growth factors that work like magic to cause increased collagen and new blood flow. So, to rejuvenate the skin, these growth factors must be put back into the face.
At Kennesaw Gynecology, we have a special centrifuge that can extract and separate your platelet-rich plasma from you blood. We either draw 10 or 20 cc of blood from your arm depending on how much is needed. The proprietary technique allows the tube to separate your red blood cells from the concentrated platelets. It takes all of about 10 minutes to do.
