At Kennesaw Gynecology we are happy to offer MD Pen Microneedling therapy. Microneedling is a safe, well-tolerated, minimally invasive procedure that uses a medical pen with many micro needles that are rapidly introduced to the skin to create tiny punctures. By doing so, the microneedling pen creates micro channels in the area of treatment to stimulate collagen regrowth, which results in smoother, more uniform, and younger-looking skin. Unlike other facial procedures, such as microdermabrasion, laser, or chemical treatments, the microneedle penetrates the skin to reach the dermis layer and the goal is to improve skin conditions without the downtime of skin trauma associated with other treatments. Microneedling is best used in the treatment of fine lines, wrinkles, liver spots, acne scars, sun damage, and hair loss. The treatment is used in conjunction with a topical serum to help penetrate deep into the skin tissue by way of the micro channels created during the procedure. Platelet rich plasma, human growth factors, and hylauronic acid are all topical serums patients can choose from in order to reach optimal results. The treatment can be performed on most skin areas including face, lips, neck, hairline, neck, abdomen, and hands. Treatment plans are individualized to meet patient needs and this will be discussed in full length at your first appointment. Patients who should not have a microneedling procedure include women who are pregnant, breastfeeding, have autoimmune disorders, active oral herpes simplex virus (fever blisters), take blood thinners, or have bleeding disorders. Following the procedure, most women have a “glow” that resembles a faint sunburn and will gradually fade after the first 24 hours of the procedure. Skin care following the in-office treatment is equally as important as the procedure itself in order to maintain the benefits of the treatment.

Microneedling is a technique that uses multiple micro needles to create micro channels into the epidermis and sometimes deeper to the top layer of the dermis. While the needles are being placed over the skin, there is a hyaluronic acid glide to not only make the process smooth but more importantly allot the HA to get deep into the channels being created. By doing this it thrusts the skin into its natural “repair” mode to produce elastin and collagen and new blood vessel pathways. This is a normal response and basically causes renewal from the inside out. Patients should expect improvement in fine lines, pore size, and wrinkles. Also, you should notice that your skin will feel smoother, firmer and ha
What happens at a microneedling session?
We cleanse the skin and then apply a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort during the procedure. Microneedling usually takes around 30-60 minutes depending on the area(s) being treated: selfie (face), snapshot (face and neck), or portrait (face, neck and chest)
Is there downtime after Microneedling?
Most people experience redness similar to a mild sunburn but this fades within hours. You can still have some slight redness for 1-2 days after the procedure. We will recommend skin care products post care based on your individual skin, which will greatly minimize these symptoms and enhance your overall results. Post skin care regimens and hydration as well as protection from the sun all contribute to the success of your treatment.
